The show before the show: Groovin' Percussion

At football games and band competitions, audiences were entertained by the SPFHS Marching Band's 2012 show, "On the Brink of Change." But those audiences didn't get to see a very entertaining number that the percussion section used in its warm-ups - a mash-up of a drumline cadence and the Beverly Hills Cop theme.

Now, the SPFMBPhotos website brings you this exclusive video of the pit and drumline as they prepared for the year's final competition at MetLife Stadium. Be sure to watch the drumline's choreography on this number known as "Natalie's Groove."

Marching Band caps off 2012 competition season

To recap: The SPFHS Raiders Marching Band performed this fall in USBands Group 6-A competitions at Edison, Piscataway, South Plainfield and East Brunswick high schools. It also took part in Roxbury High School's Marching Band Classic. The band won First Place at the Yamaha Cup competition, with caption awards for Best Music, Best Effect and Best Guard. And finally, the Raiders placed second at the USBands Nationals competition, took the caption award for Best Effect - and won the "Esprit de Corps" award presented by the U.S. Marine Corps.

Above is a gallery of photos from Nationals. We'd like to keep adding to it, so if you have pictures from the event, please share!

Scroll down to see previous posts on Nationals, including videos of the warm-ups outside MetLife Stadium and of the band taking the field.

Scotch Plains-Fanwood Patch published an article on the marching band's season and its Nationals performance. It features interviews with this year's drum majors. Read it here.

Warm-Ups: Behind-the-scenes at MetLife Stadium

If you've been to Raiders Marching Band performances you've seen our students put on a great show. But you may not have seen the preparation they go through in the hour or so before each competition.

Here's a "backstage look" at the band and guard getting loose, getting ready and getting psyched for their final competition of the year, the USBands Nationals at MetLife Stadium on Nov. 11, 2012.

The band put on a great show and received a terrific score of 95.8 for second place in Group 6A, plus the caption award for Best Effect.
If you have photos or video from that night, we'd love to add them to our collection. Click here to learn how to contribute.

Raiders take field at USBands Nationals - MetLife Stadium

On Nov. 11, the SPFHS Marching Band took the field at MetLife Stadium for a second time this fall, this time for the USBands Nationals competition. It was a great way to cap off the season and the band performed brilliantly - in spite of a nearly two-week disruption of its practice schedule by Hurricane Sandy.

We're gathering photos and videos of this event, and welcome your contributions. Here are two clips, taken by pit crew members Dan and Ken, of the band emerging from the stadium tunnels onto the field.
