Welcome!
This web site began as one marching-band parent's effort to share his own and others' photo memories of the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Marching Band experience. Due to popular demand, it soon expanded its scope to include other SPFHS music groups. You're welcome to browse our photo albums, and to submit your own photos of our "Spiffy" musicians.Frequently Asked Questions
Who runs this site? The school? The band boosters?
Nope. This web page and the associated photo albums are run by Dan Murphy, parent of a Class of 2014 alumnus and a Class of 2011 alumna. It is not operated by or affiliated with the Scotch Plains-Fanwood school district. It operates in a spirit of cooperation with the Music Boosters Association, but it is not sponsored by or directly connected with that organization.
Whose photos are on here?
The site was launched in late October 2011 with a selection of Dan's photos from the 2007-2011 marching band seasons. It's been growing ever since, as Dan adds his own photos plus contributions from other SPFHS music program members, families and friends. This site also links to photos and videos that appear on other web sites.
Can anyone just post photos as they please?
Anyone can contribute photos, but they will be screened before posting. You're welcome to submit photos by e-mail to spfmb.photos@gmail.com. Or you can send a request to the same e-mail address for a password to upload directly to the Spiffy Band page on Picasa. Posters are instructed to set the photos as private (the default setting) until Dan screens them and puts them "live" on the site. Alternatively, you can send links to albums you have created on other web sites. Dan will monitor this site to make sure nothing inappropriate is posted.
What about videos?
Video contributions are also welcome -- preferably in the form of links to videos posted on YouTube or other hosting services. Simply e-mail links and/or embed codes to spfmb.photos@gmail.com.
Is anyone in the world able to see these photos on the Internet?
This web site and the online albums it links to are set to be viewed only by people who have the links to the pages, and not to be listed in search engines. However, there is no way to guarantee that photos posted here won't somehow spread beyond these pages, so bear that in mind when submitting yours. As with any web site, it's best to assume that anything posted is public.
If you post a video on YouTube or another hosting service and send us a link, it's up to you to adjust the privacy settings on the hosting service. If it's set as private, it probably won't be visible on this site. If it's set as public, anyone can see it and it can be found by search engines. If you'd like to share it with this site but keep it off search engines, choose a setting that allows it to be viewed by those with the link.
What if a photo of my child is posted and I don't want it online?
Dan will honor any request to remove a student's photo. Contact him at spfmb.photos@gmail.com. Every effort is made to make sure nothing embarrassing or inappropriate ever appears on this site in the first place.
There are cool pictures here. Can I copy them?
All photos on this site are Copyright 2007-2015 by their photographers. If you download one for your personal, private photo collection, that's OK. Do not repost them or distribute them via prints, electronic copies or other means without express permission.
I have other questions. How can I get answers?
