SPF Hosts 14 Bands at 2012 Home Show

Change of plans: The band heads for the gym after a thunderstorm forced the Home Show finale indoors.

The SPFHS Marching Band, its staff and our Music Boosters volunteers showed their resourcefulness during the 2012 Home Show on Sept 22.

The Music Boosters did a great job organizing the event, held on the varsity field beginning at 5 p.m. Fourteen bands from northern and central New Jersey competed in the US Bands-sanctioned event. As the host band, the Raider Marching Band played in exhibition.

Carrying on in the rain - shortly before the clouds burst.
The event went smoothly until about the time that the 12th band of the evening took the field. That's when the rain that had been threatening all evening began to fall - heavily.

The marchers from Linden High School bravely carried on through the downpour, while audience members and our volunteers either broke out umbrellas, clustered under overhangs or simply put up with the soaking.

The rain stopped while the next band played -- but then came word that a lightning storm was on its way, and the decision was made to clear the field and move into the gymnasium for the remainder of the show.

While inconvenient, the move made for a memorable scene inside the gym, as the final competing band -- Wayne Hills -- and then our SPF band performed in place on the hardwood.

The SPFHS Raiders Marching Band fills the gymnasium floor.

Although it lacked the visual impact of the marching program, the Raider's performance was musically excellent. Here's video taken by band parent/pit crew volunteer Dan from directly in front of the band.
