Marching Band in 2014 Memorial Day Parade (Video, Photos)

Continuing with tradition, the SPFHS Marching Band and Color Guard took part in the annual Scotch Plains-Fanwood Memorial Day Parade on May 26, 2014. The band played the National Anthem to begin the ceremonies in downtown Scotch Plains. It then joined the line of march down Park and Martine Avenues to the parade's conclusion in downtown Fanwood.

Also during the ceremonies in Scotch Plains, members of the high school choir sang "God Bless America."

Here's an album of photos of the band marching into downtown Fanwood, from band parent Dev Anjaria. (Click on this link or the image below to see the album.)

Spring Choral Concert 2014 - Photos

The Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School choirs and other singing groups presented a two-hour-long Spring Choral Concert on May 21.

Choral director Jan Allen noted that this year's seniors are the first class she has taught from freshman year to graduation - and that some of them also had been her students at Coles Elementary School.

The show wrapped up another wonderful spring-concert season at the school. We also have photos from the Spring Instrumental Concert and the District Jazz Night. As always, we welcome your contributions of photos and/or links to videos from these and any other SPFHS musical events.

SPFHS District Jazz Night 2014 - Photos

The Moonglowers, the Tuesday and Thursday Jazz Labs and SPF Jazz were among the groups that performed at the District Jazz Night on May 19 at the high school auditorium.

The jazz bands from Park and Terrill Middle Schools also performed, demonstrating that plenty of talented musicians will be moving up as the current high school classes move on.

Seven SPFHS instrumental groups took part in the annual Spring Instrumental Concert at the Manya Unger Auditorium on May 14.

These photos by Dan capture performances by five of the groups. Unfortunately, we don't have photos from the last two - SPF Jazz and Wind Ensemble - and welcome contributions from anyone who took pictures of those performances.

Also be sure to see the video of Rhythmsense's performance of Short Circuits, which opened the show.

Moonglowers win 2014 state finals - Video

The SPFHS Moonglowers won first place at the New Jersey Association for Jazz Education's 2014 Division II state finals on April 26. Watch the winning performance here:

The Alternative Press published an article that noted the Moonglowers are now 12-time state champions.

The article also said the group won all six competitions in which it participated this year. “It was the hard work and dedication of the Moonglowers that achieved their success throughout the year,” Vincent Turturiello, director of the group and SPFHS supervisor of fine arts, told The Alternative Press.
